Foreward
Before I start this story, I need to say a few things first. So I have created a foreward which many of my friends in my daily life would totally roll their eyes at and tell everyone to simply skip to the first chapter. It’s not necessary to read this first so feel free to go on to chapter one.
A big thanks to everyone who has read the few fanfics I have out there and enjoyed them. If it weren’t for you guys, I would never attempt a story of this scale. It’s going to be a big one and I’m fairly scared I will not finish but I trust y’all will keep me from giving it up. 🙂

• Instead of my normal “what if” stories to events past, I’m finally tackling the story of the current canon and changing it to how Steve comes back to Salem. I immediately thought this up the SECOND I saw MB and SN on Soapnet last summer when they said Steve had returned from the dead and was disappointed that they were going with the amnesia storyline (which many of us were). Not that I’m against great soap opera cliches but this one I felt was always wrong for this couple.
• I’m going to try to do this like DOOL should have done by with Steve’s return with bringing him into another story that was already going on. To do this right, I must set up for that story and it will be several chapters before you see him. Kayla will take even longer because I find it way too convenient for her to come back to Salem at the same time her presumed dead amnesiac husband comes back. Bear with me, though, I want to do this just like I envisioned it on the show.
• The character backgrounds will not be 100% accurate to canon. I am trying to stay true to the show’s history up to this point but as I get into research for other characters on the show, such as Bo and Hope, and I read the JERkiness of their history…I grow angry, so I might be forced to quickly skate by some recent events if it comes up in conversation or memory. I also made sure to have Kayla come back for Zack’s funeral, that is a no-brainer.
• Yes, I’m writing in John and Marlena. Yes, it will be a pro-J&M story which might make you re-check the author of this story before you read on. As tempting it is for me to kill her off, I won’t do that, and try to write this character as the way she should be written and as gaspless as possible. Frankly, she isn’t as hard as present day Roman, who I find absolutely repulsive played by Josh Taylor so he probably is going to be a bit of a jerk in this. Sorry, but there you go.

LOL; sorry, I go on and on. It’s part of my charm (or curse). I hope to really get through this and I hope you all enjoy the story. I am going to try this and am more nervous about this story then I was with Can’t Deny the Heart.
